Before I dive in, I want to admit something. This isn’t my original hashtag. As much as I would love to take credit for it, I can’t and won’t. (Shout out) thanks sis for letting me use it! Lol…
Sisters, how many times have we discounted ourselves? Meaning, we’ve sold ourselves short of what we’re really worth. Or we’ve disqualified ourselves because of all the blemishes on our life resumes? Let’s be honest. I’ll be the first to say I have many times. We use phrases like “well, if I wasn’t like ______ or was like _____ I’d be further along,” or “thank you girl but I got this dress from the second-hand store” or “girl I can’t do that!” Any of those sound familiar? Some I’ve used for sure, wait a minute, take that back, I’ve used all of them!
It’s almost become the norm to put ourselves down at an all-time low then go through the vicious cycle of hating on another woman because she’s brave enough to step up and take the bat. We succumb to our own negatively distorted view of ourselves. Our vantage point of ourselves is the complete opposite of how God sees us. While He sees us as the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8, NKJV) we see ourselves as scum of the earth. While God says that we are His masterpieces (Ephesians 2:10) we say that we are complete failures and utter messes. While God says that He is the One who qualifies us (Romans 8:30) we produce a laundry list of reasons why we are far from qualified. This going back and forth is the very reason why God says we are to transform the way we think, renew our minds so that we won’t be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2). We can’t properly walk into destiny with warped perspectives. And that’s why 2017 needs to be themed for many, myself included, #TheYearOfTheMakeover.
God made it clear that old wineskins can’t and won’t hold new wine (Matthew 9:17) so why do we try and do the same? Only our wineskins come in the form of negative thinking, secret sins, down low behavior, gossip, worry, etc. and the new wine is God’s promises. God’s promises are His promises, He will never retract them nor change them. But we must change. We must choose to step out of the stank of our flesh and into the new garments hand tailored by God for us (Colossians 3:9-14). We must choose this makeover if we want to be prosperous in life. I don’t care what anybody tells you or anything you see on television, social media, or magazines…life is STILL unfulfilled with all of the money, cars, clothes, men, status, etc. Generic happiness runs out quick because it’s filled with and by superficial things. (Post that!!)
So, my beautiful sisters, as we near the end of this year, we want you to really look over the course of your life and see what needs a makeover. Don’t glaze over, but really look intently at whatever God has been pointing out to you or you just know needs to change and make the intentional decision that you will! Can’t wait to hear your stories! Blessings!
