Blurred Vision

Sometimes, I have horrible bouts of dry eyes. Thanks to the good ol’ state of Tennessee, I now have seasonal allergies and I’m almost forced to carry a healthy supply of Visine or some sort of eye lubricant. Have y’all ever experienced dry eyes before? I mean dag, your eyes feel so heavy and weighted. And for me, my vision becomes super blurry. So much so, that if my family and I are out, I have to give the wheel to my husband (well, that happens anyway so I guess that’s no biggy…*shrugs shoulders, whistles, and looks up at the sky*). I’ve been to the optometrists and they prescribed eye glasses (yess, the super cute ones you see me wearing in my videos) to prevent eye strain from the dryness and eye lubricants. With my eyes being so dry, it knocks my focus off. Regular objects become distorted. What should appear normal is now blurred.

Now check this, and yes I’m going to flip the script just a bit. When our thinking is off, our thoughts can cause our vision to become blurred also. Not literally, but mentally, psychologically. When we think negatively or picture that proverbial grey cloud looming over our heads, all we can see is doom and gloom. Unchecked thoughts lead to blurred vision.

There is a story of a blind man in the Bible who was aided on by his friends to Jesus to be healed (thank God for friends who really have your back). They begged Jesus to heal the man. So, Jesus took the man by the hand and laid His hands on the blind man's eyes. The man’s first hint of sight were blurred images of people who he said resembled trees. I wonder just how many of us walk around looking at one thing but because of the negative thoughts in our minds, cause that thing to resemble something else. “I will never get out of debt,” so all you see are piled up bills and a depleted bank account. “Nobody wants me. I guess I’m going to be single forever,” and all you see is a desolate, lonely life. “Why can’t I just do better? I will never be as good as she is,” and all you see is a loser or a good for nothing.

Now, let’s be clear on something before I continue. I didn’t make mention of mental illnesses because I believe that’s a more serious and sensitive topic. It deserves its own attention and focus. We will definitely get into that in the near future. But what I’m talking about are the thoughts we can control. Those thoughts that places limitation and barriers around what we have the potential to do and become.

Sisters, each and every day, you and I have to WILL ourselves to shut those negative thoughts down. We must become intentional about thinking about what we’re thinking about. I’ve said this several times this week and I can’t stress it enough. You will truly be surprised by what you allow to come in and fester in your mind.

This week in our newsletter, our scripture focuses were Romans 12:2 and Psalms 139:23-24. We also took the action step and printed off the affirmation quote (right? Yes of course you did!), and we also prayed over our thoughts and actions.

We shouldn’t just scale over these scriptures or any other content of the newsletter but actually meditate on them…just like we do some of that negative thinking of ours. We meditate on them, allowing them to transform the way we think. Because guess what? When we transform our thinking, we transform our vision. What once used to be blurred becomes apparent again.

We’ve come to the end of this week’s focus on the mind. But that doesn’t mean it has to be the end for you, my dear. I want you to keep at what you started. Because it’s time to dust off some dreams, visions, and goals, girlfriend!

Next week, we will be discussing and focusing on emotional baggage (yesss!) Blessings!

P.S. if you missed out on the first newsletter, you can get it here. Don’t forget to subscribe to the email list so you won’t miss out again!
